The ShineHub Community Virtual Power Plant
With our first-of-its-kind VPP, you get paid a premium rate of $0.45/kWh whenever your battery sends its extra power to the grid. You read that right… if you’re discharging your battery to the grid, you’re getting paid for it. That means you’re making extra money on top of the amount you’re already saving on your energy bill!
Okay, let’s get right to the nuts and bolts. Here’s how our new plan works:
- Fixed payment of $0.45 per kWh from ShineHub when the VPP sends excess power from your battery to the grid
- You also receive your normal solar feed-in tariff from your energy retailer – usually around $0.06 – $0.10 per kWh
- You can pick any energy retailer at all (but you must have an AlphaESS battery)
The going rate for grid power in Australia is between $0.25 and $0.35 per kWh. With the ShineHub Community VPP, you could make as much as $0.60 per kWh for the excess battery power you send back to the grid.
It’s free to get on board and you can choose whatever energy retailer you like – you can even switch retailers whenever you feel like it. There are no lock-in contracts or exit fees. That means you have nothing to lose, and lots of extra money to make!

How to Join the ShineHub Community VPP
It’s easy to join! Just chat to our experts and we’ll get you all set up in no time. There are only a couple of conditions – you must have a compatible battery and home internet to participate. Currently, only AlphaESS batteries are compatible with the ShineHub Community VPP, but more batteries will be compatible soon! But since AlphaESS has recently been named a Top Brand by German-based EUPD Researcher, you might as well pick the best!
