Our VPP is Growing

Expanding the size of our VPP gives us the power we need to compete with the fossil fuels industry.

Fossil fuels is the right term, because that industry is a dinosaur. It’s slow, unresponsive, and is trudging towards extinction. But, like a dinosaur, it’s also big. And if we want to take it out, we need to be big too.

The good news is that we’re well on our way! Our Community VPP is now 3,000+ batteries strong with 33.94MWh active on the platform that we can draw on to help stabilise the grid.

Let’s put that in perspective. At that size, the ShineHub Community VPP now has the potential to produce more than six time the amount of power per hour than the AGL natural gas plant at Regency Park! Since we launched our VPP we have created a potential power source as large as many traditional power plants. And we are still just getting started.

Our ambition for this project is massive. We aim to transform the way power is made in this country. By creating responsive on-demand energy from the sun, we’ll put fossil fuels where they belong… in a museum!

We’re building a new, better future together. And as we get closer to realising the dream, you’ll make more and more money.

How? Well, we were just getting to that!

More VPP Events = More Money!

As we grow the size of our Virtual Power Plant, we’re also increasing the frequency of VPP events.

What does this mean? A VPP event is what we call it when your battery supplies excess power to support the grid. And every time that happens, you get paid a premium rate of $0.45/kWh for the energy you send. So the more VPP events that occur, the more money you earn from your participation.

The ShineHub Community VPP is currently averaging two VPP events per week in 2023. That’s two instances every week where your power will be used to support the grid. And that means two times a week that you’re getting paid for your extra power!

VPP events will only increase in frequency from here. As we add more and more battery power to the ShineHub Community VPP, the positive impact it can have increases too! And that makes it more attractive as a technique for providing stable, cleaner power to the general community.

And remember, even if you have to use grid power to make up for the power the VPP events take – it doesn’t matter! You’ll always be making more money for the power you sell than the power you’re using costs you. On top of that, you contribute to a more stable power infrastructure for your community. It’s a win-win!
