What is the City of Unley Community Renewables Program?^
Amidst rising power costs, access to cheaper and reliable energy is becoming more crucial than ever before. The goal for the City of Unley’s Community Renewables Program is simple – give residents access to affordable solar and battery solutions that save money and create energy resiliency in our community.
You will be helping Council deliver its goals for a climate-resilient and sustainable future through establishing a local renewable energy network that powers our community sustainably, enables a Virtual Power Plant program and continues to create ongoing financial, community and environmental benefits to residents now and in the future.
Increased batteries within Unley and the establishment of a VPP will help to stablise the local electricity grid. Solar and battery technologies may also help Unley residents to better deal with the short-term impacts of extreme weather events including blackouts.
Together we can create a people-powered renewable energy future and reduce our cost of living, lower emissions and build community resilience.

The City of Unley recognises its role in supporting residents, helping them to save money on their energy bills, while powering our community more sustainably to deliver on our sustainability objectives.
The 2025 solar and battery Bulk Buy is a key step to drive this transformation, offering more residents the opportunity to adopt affordable solar and battery solutions for their energy needs, and an opportunity to join the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to earn a passive income from their battery when energy is sent back to the grid.
Packages include
Solar Panels
Harness the sun’s energy during the day, reducing your daytime electricity costs to power your home. Plus earn your electricity retailer solar feed-in-tariff to save even more.
Solar Batteries
Store extra daytime power generated by your solar panels so you can use it at night, saving you up to 90% on your power bills.
Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
Connect to our local VPP and help keep the grid stable for everyone in the community. Establishing a local VPP will help to stabilise the grid as energy can be supplied to the grid from batteries when needed. Every time energy from your battery is discharged, our VPP pays you a premium payment of $0.55/kWh.** It’s a win, win!
